A Taste of Laura Street is a reality food experience where participants can taste and judge local cuisine while enjoying the historical ambiance of the former Laura Street African American Business District and Plant City’s cultural node.

The event will be held Saturday September 22, 2018 at the Plant City Bing House Museum, 205 South Allen Street, Plant City, Florida 33563.  The Improvement League of Plant City, a 501Cc3 Community Development Corporation will host this event.

A food tasting competition, Best Commish dessert dish, traveling art gallery exhibit, and live bands featuring Jazz, Reggae and Latin genre will highlight this event.

A Taste of Laura Street highlights the story of how economic development ignited and launched self-empowerment in the Lincoln Park neighborhood despite the segregated culture during the era spanning 1920 thru 1969. The Plant City Laura Street business district once thrived with restaurants, rooming houses, movie theaters, funeral homes, ice cream parlors and a physician (Dr. O.A. Joyner).  The Bing Rooming House and Ms. Bing’s Seminole Restaurant anchored the Laura Street business district at the corner of South Allen and Laura Street.  This is an opportunity to showcase one of Plant City’s most historic neighborhoods where you can see and taste authentic culture.

Nothing like Food, Music and Fun!! Promoting the attractiveness of this neighborhood as a place to Live, Work and Play.
